Listen to the Word May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
(Psalm 19:14)

|
As we pray Psalm 19:14, we are expressing our hope that what we do will
be pleasing in God's sight. This prayer provokes an important
question: who are you living to please? Often the words of our
mouths are used to try to be pleasing in the sight of other people,
seeking to demonstrate to them how smart, or how funny, or how
spiritual, or how powerful we are. Often the meditation of our
hearts centers on how we can improve our public approval ratings.
Through this prayer, we invite God to set us free from our need to
impress other people. We tell him that His opinion is the only
one that matters.

Live the Word
Make
plans to do a good deed this weekend that no one else will ever know
about. Perhaps you could bathe someone in prayer without telling
them, or deliver an anonymous gift, or do some secret act of
service. Don't seek credit for your good deed from anyone else;
keep it between you and God.
