Listen to the Word Then
they said to the king, "Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah,
pays no attention to you, O king, or to the decree you put in writing.
He still prays three times a day." (Daniel 6:13)

We
place a high value on being comfortable and safe, but the Bible
commends many people who did something reckless for God. This
week we will investigate the connection between faith and risk.
Daniel
took a big risk for God. The king passed a law forbidding prayer
to anyone but himself, making it clear that anyone who broke that law
would become lion lunch. Daniel kept right on praying to God
anyway. He put his life on the line, refusing to alter his
pattern of regular communication with God. We know the end of the
story - we know that God rescued Daniel from the lions. We often
say that Daniel was rescued from the lions' den because of his faith,
and that may be true. But of course it was also his faith that
got him thrown into the lions' den in the first place! When was
the last time your faith led you to take a risk that got you in trouble?
