Listen
to the Word "He was
despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with
suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was
despised, and we esteemed him not." (Isaiah 53:3)

This week we will reflect on the suffering of Jesus,
guided by the words of Isaiah 53. Though this passage was written
centuries before the time of Jesus, it describes His death with
tremendous clarity and power.
Isaiah 53:3 points to one of
the great tragedies of the life and death of Jesus - He was rejected by
the very people He came to rescue. He didn't look like the kind
of Messiah we wanted, so we didn't recognize Him or respect Him.
He came to demonstrate God's love for people, and people responded by
hating Him, hiding from Him, and hanging Him on a cross.
