"Finally,
brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if
anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such
things." (Philippians
4:8)

God calls you to fill your
mind with good things, because what fills your mind will shape your
character. All day long you are surrounded by simple opportunities to
obey his instruction. You can ponder a sunset or a flower. You can savor
a well-cooked meal. You can relish a good work of literature or a
moving piece of music. You can pay attention to little acts of love and
goodness that take place around you. You can learn something new; after
all, all truth is God's truth, so even algebra class or the Discovery
channel can give you the opportunity to live out Philippians 4:8. Reduce
your intake of mental poison, and fill your mind with what is true,
noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy.
