"If we confess our sins, he
is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness." (1 John

Confession is not easy. No one enjoys saying, "I was wrong. I
made a mistake. I blew it. I am guilty." But
confession is an essential practice for the follower of Christ.
God calls you to confess your sin to Him. No hiding, no evading,
no justifying and rationalizing - just be honest about the fact that you
have missed the mark.
1 John 1:9 describes two amazing things
that happen when you confess your sin to God. First, He forgives
you. That means He changes the way he looks at you. He
chooses not hold your disobedience against you anymore. He wipes
the slate clean. Second, He purifies you. He not only
deletes the sin from His record book - He scrubs it out of your
soul. He not only changes the way He looks at you - He actually
changes you. He cleans up the mess that your sin has made in your
heart. If you will confess, He promises to forgive and to purify.
